The Bergstrasse region is a 30-minute drive to the south of Frankfurt. This “Mountain Road” is the part of the Bergstrasse-Odenwald UNESCO Global , where springtime arrives first in Germany.
Walking along the Blütenweg (Blossom Trail) and in the parks between Darmstadt and Heidelberg is the nearest thing to heaven. This is where the vineyards of the Hessische Bergstrasse meet those of the Badische Bergstrasse. Orchards and fields of asparagus, meadows and forests, castles, palaces and fortresses invite you to cycle, hike and discover the many treasures the region has to offer.
For keen hikers, the Bergstrasse offers the Burgensteig (Castle Trail) and three other high-quality trails. Culture lovers have a huge choice of museums to visit. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Lorsch Abbey, the complex of Jugendstil “Art Nouveau” buildings in Darmstadt the “City of Science”, historic old towns such as Zwingenberg or the famous castle in the university town of Heidelberg also figure on the list of destinations for visitors to the Bergstrasse. We wish you many happy hours in our region, whether you are enjoying one of our special events or sampling some of the region’s culinary delights!
